My work and development of Botanica started from my passion for community service and desire to address a prevalent health issue in underprivileged communities in Thailand – ringworm. Ringworm is a type of fungal infection common in Thailand due to the hot and humid climate. While volunteering as a tutor at the Mercy Centre in Khlong Toey Slum, I discovered first-hand how this fungal infection affected people’s lives. The limited availability of treatment options such as steroid creams which produced burning side effects and prevented consistent usage, worsened the situation.

I was motivated to create an alternative solution. I drew inspiration from the Thai herb Snake Jasmine, historically used for medicinal purposes, however, I recognized the need to scientifically verify its effect. My first step was to validate traditional claims about the anti-fungal properties of Snake Jasmine with modern research procedures. Ultimately, it was my goal to create a treatment that benefits the health and well-being of both its consumers and producers by empowering the farmers that cultivate the herb and offering a natural treatment free of side effects to patients of ringworm.
